The diagram illustrates the changes made to a public library’s floor plan over a span of two decades. Overall, the library has been significantly altered to create a more child-friendly space and to incorporate modern technology.
Upon entry, the central area, once filled with seating, now serves as an open passage. To the left of the entrance, what used to be a reading room for newspapers and magazines has been transformed into a computer room. On the opposite side, a café has replaced the previous enquiry desk. Continuing past the café, the section that previously contained adult non-fiction books has now been converted into an area with an information desk and self-service machines. Adjacent to this, the former area for adult fiction books now holds all the reference books, while the adult fiction collection has been moved to share the space with the information desk.
At the far end of the passage, a large room for children’s fiction and storytelling, equipped with sofas, now occupies the space that was previously a small storage area for CDs, movies, and computer games. On the opposite side, a lecture room has taken the place of the former children’s book section. (199 words )
