Overall, private studios are the most popular location for lessons, and there is a clear inverse trend between younger and older students in their choice of dance styles.
Starting with class locations, private studios accounted for the largest share, at 48%. This was followed by school auditoriums and community venues, making up 24% and 18%, respectively. The smallest percentage of classes took place in collegiate centres, with a much lower figure of 10%.
Looking at the dance genres, ballet was the most popular among younger students, with 600 participants, while it had the fewest older students, just below 300. In contrast, contemporary dance had the highest number of older dancers, at over 500, while only 300 younger students took part. Tap dancing had a slightly higher number of younger students (about 450) compared to older students (around 425).
